blastest from the pastest

I was digging deep in my inbox today and I came across a real gem. In case any of you were wondering about where this team came from, this is the post for you.

Sent March 3 2005:

As Polonius mentioned, "Since brevity is the soul of wit... I
will be brief..."
Who am I kidding, this sucker is gonna Ramble Tamble like Fogerty,
Fogerty, Cook and Clifford.
It's the time of year when a young pup's thoughts turn to the
rollicking fields of ultimate. Yet it appears that Portland
fields are fallow and lacking that extra team it takes to have a
healthy harvest this season. What I've done is talk
to my friends D'Arcy and Yuka about putting together another
team in this town. We did a quick count of folks who we would
like to play with and ran out of fingers on D'Arcy's left hand
way before we ran out of warm bodies in Portland.

So here's the skinny. D'Arcy and I are doing the team putting
together thing this year. You, and someone you know who is like
you, are the kind of people we're looking for.

This team is going to be based on some fundamental theories,
which I will outline with forthright haste.

1-Ultimate is not your number one priority.
Commitment is stronger leading up to tournaments, and July weekends
are yours, take a vacation.
2-We are looking at playing the tournaments based on their
potential for fun. Logjam, THAT, Onionfest, Hanford, Kleinman, etc. I am
not traveling to Oklahoma and beyond to lose to All-star teams.
D'Arcy has spent a lot of time in Oklahoma and it just isn't the
kind of place he would want to take a team, or his children.
3-The dinner party. For those of you that know me, my life is
based around waiting for my next dinner. I anxiously await the
next themed cook off. Ask around if you've never been over. I
work it up like the frugal gourmet without the obscene
photography. We will put the "ate" back into ultimate.
4-We also want to put the "fun" back in ultimate. I don't know where
it fits, but we'll stick it in their somewhere.
5-The more the merrier. We're looking to take bigger teams than
other people in town, This will maximize our ability to win the
party, but still give us the option of starting on time on
Sunday.
6-We're going to do our best to save the Drama for Your Mama. We
like smile time. I want you part of our smile time, not part of
the backstabbing and bickering. I do that enough with my
roommate Daniel that I don't need to add it to my
athletic/social life.
7-Practice will start more focused on getting back into playing
shape, and getting the feel for the disc. If warranted,
strategy can work its way in as the season progresses in short 5
minute spiels.
8-I'm only in charge for as long as it takes you all to mutiny
and depose me. If you think you can Fletcher Christian me, by all
means take your shot, I'm open to being the Bligh.
9-This will still probably be my shortest email of the year.
10-I'm only in this to design a jersey. I've wanted to design another
logo since College, and finally I'm getting my shot. Let me live the
dream and shine on like a crazy star.

Now down to business. We are putting in a bid for Onionfest.
We will also attempt to head to THAT, Yuka has the in for that
shindig. Hopefully if we have any underage players they won't have to
get naked again.

Cookout will immediately follow the running. Hell, come over to
my house after even if you don't want to play, we miss most of
you, and want to see you again.

In the mean time, come out and support the Hat tourney this
weekend, details at the PUFF site.

Please reply if you can find the time.
If you reply, you get the details on practice time and location, and
most importantly, theme of the cookout.

Signed,
Kyle and D'Arcy.

It's amazing how little the ten bulletpoints have changed.
